2 Peter 1:12 NLT

Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.

Ephesians 5:15-17 NIV

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

Psalms 92:12-15 NIV

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

2 Peter 1:14-15 NLT

For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life, so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • What is the most outrageous or impactful advertising campaign you remember seeing? What made it so memorable?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Read 2 Peter 1:12. Clay reminded us that reminders are necessary. What were some of the reasons?
  • Ephesians 5:15-17. There are so many things that can take our focus and attention. Name some ways that can help us stay focused on the right things. How do we protect ourselves from getting our focus pulled away from the things that are important?
  • Read Psalm 92:12-15. What does a tree need to flourish? How does paying attention to reminders and renewing your mind allow you to flourish like the cedar of Lebanon?
  • Read Luke 10:38-42. Clay said, “We need these billboard moments in our lives to remind us to not settle for good things, but to desire the best things.” In what ways does this scripture passage convict you? Do you feel that there are times where you have missed God’s “billboard moments” in your own life?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • What steps can you take now to make sure that you are consciously mindful of the reminders all around you?
  • How do you feel you are doing on a daily basis “reminding” those around you about the amazing love of Jesus? Would you say you represent Christ well to others? Or do you struggle in this area?
  • Do you have a Peter in your life…an individual who reminds you to stay faithful and focused in living your life for Christ?
  • Clay made the statement “Learn to take advantage of your time, or someone else will take advantage of your time”. How have you seen this played out in your own time management?
  • Do you currently or have you previously “uprooted” yourself from something due to being uncomfortable? Looking back, would it have been better for growth to stay “uprooted” or grounded through the discomfort?
  • Read 2 Peter 1:14-15. Peter wanted to make sure that he finished well, fulfilling God’s calling on his life. What can you currently do to ensure you are doing the same?

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Commit to reminding those around you of the amazing love of Jesus and representing Christ well to others.

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Father, thank you that You use Billboard moments in our lives to get our attention and teach us more about you. Help us to keep our focus on you in a world that is always fighting for our attention. In Jesus Name. Amen.
