Confidence 05 Nov 17

(Message 1) The story of David and Goliath is one of History’s greatest. Against all odds, a shepherd boy slays a vicious, towering, seasoned warrior. But it wasn’t luck. David’s inner confidence in God, despite impossible circumstances, made the giant fall that day. Join us as we dive into the epic life of a man after God’s own heart, King David.

David had an inner confidence that came from his relationship with God.

The benefits of confidence:

  1. You become a babe magnet.
  2. You become a great leader.
  3. You become a man of God.
  1. What’s the most confident or courageous thing you’ve ever done?  What gave you the confidence to do it?
  2. Read 1 Samuel 17:1-16.  What do you think Saul, David’s older brothers, and the rest of the Israelites were talking about over dinner every night during the days of Goliath’s boasting?  What was the mood in their camp?
  3. Typically, what would be your reaction in a similar situation?
  4. Read 1 Samuel 17:17- 48.  Why was David’s reaction to Goliath completely different from everyone else’s?  Where did David’s confidence come from?
  5. From where do you draw your confidence?
  6. What has been your reaction when you’ve undergone a significant life challenge (e.g. job loss/retirement, loss of a relationship/death, health issue)?
  7. How did that experience affect your identity and your confidence?
  8. Where else were you tempted to place your hope?
  9. Read Psalm 25:1-5. What are some things that make it difficult for you to trust God? Why?
  10. Why is trusting God and putting your confidence in HIM a more reliable option than trusting things of this world?
  11. Can you think of Bible verses that express this?
  12. Troy said, “Work on your relationship with God, walk with Him, trust Him, spend time in His word, spend time serving Him.” What is one thing you can do this week to identify yourself as a child of God?  Share your ideas with your group.
