I Do 29 Oct 17

(Message 4) Did you stop believing in God because of something you discovered or something you desired? Evidence for God is all around, but all too often it is rejected simply because a life without God seems more attractive. Join us as we conclude this series with a challenge to examine our motivation for rejecting belief in God.

Did you stop (fill in the blank) because of something you discovered or something you desired?

  1. Holds us accountable.
  2. Has revealed Himself.

  1. We suppress the truth by our wickedness.

  1. Have you ever had an argument with your spouse, a friend, or a coworker and in the middle of the argument you realized you were wrong?  Did you stop and admit it?  Why or why not?
  2. Read Romans 1:18-23.  How has God revealed Himself to mankind?
    • What are some examples of God’s eternal power and divine nature?
    • As a general rule, what has been mankind’s response to God’s revelation?
  3. Read Romans 1:24-32.   What are the consequences of a negative or non-response to God’s revelation?
  4. Despite the overwhelming evidence for an intelligent Designer, why do some people refuse to acknowledge it?
  5. Do you agree with Blaise Pascal, “People almost invariably arrive at their beliefs not on the basis of proof but on the basis of what they find attractive.” Why or why not? Share some examples.
  6. Read Romans 5:6-8. What do these verses say about God’s character?  What should be the proper response to God’s initiative of love?
  7. Troy said that at GC we can belong before we believe. Anyone who attends GC can volunteer or join a small group.  Is this difficult for you to accept/believe? Why or why not?

If you’re at a place where you’re not sure if you believe, but you want to belong, head to Starting Point. It starts today, Sunday the 29th at GC in Room A-2 at 11:30 am. Go here for more info: https://generationschurch.com/steps/starting-point/

Here’s a great resource that explains God’s plan of salvation:

What is the Romans Road to salvation?

“The Romans Road to salvation is a way of explaining the good news of salvation using verses from the Book of Romans. It is a simple yet powerful method of explaining why we need salvation, how God provided salvation, how we can receive salvation, and what are the results of salvation.”

We have Romans Road bookmarkers available at the signup counter in the lobby at church.  A great tool to use when you want to share the good news with someone.  Help yourself!  Remember this is what God asks of us, Mark 5:19 . . . “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”  Just share your story!
