Pre-Decide – Drawing Closer to God

(Message 2) We make decisions and our decisions make us. Many decisions we make happen without forethought or planning ahead, and the result is a life lived without intention or forethought. Drawing closer to God doesn’t happen by accident, it has to be intentional. Join us for today’s message, “Pre-Decide – Drawing Closer to God”. #GCPreDecide

Key Scripture:

Acts 2:42-47 (NLT)

42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper ), and to prayer.

43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity – 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

John 15:1-7 (NLT)

1 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. 3 You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. 5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • What’s one of the best decisions you made in 2022?  What’s one of the worst?

Start sharing. These questions are to help get your group thinking and to create openness.

  • Read Acts 2:42-47.  What was the pre-decision the believers made in v.42?  What happened as a result of their devotion/decision?
  • Discuss the following statement:  We make decisions and our decisions make us.
  • Why is pre-deciding so important?  Practically speaking, what could pre-deciding look like in your life?
  • The 2nd thing the early church did was seek out Christian community.  What made you join a small group?  What difference has it made in your life?  What happens when we fly solo?
  • Read John 15:1-7.  What does it look like to remain/abide in Jesus?  What did Jesus mean by the phrase “apart from me you can do nothing?”
  • Have you attended 21 Days of Prayer?  What’s your favorite thing about it?
  • What’s your goal for your prayer life this year?

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Pre-decide to implement practices and spiritual disciplines of Acts 2:42 each day this week.

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Ask God to help you draw closer to Him, and to make good decisions.  Join with others in the 21 Days of Prayer at Generations Church on-site or online.
