Remember Your Baptism 17 Jul 16

Baptism can be a complicated issue depending on your religious background. Join us as we uncomplicate baptism and look to the Bible for answers.

3 Reasons why I should be baptized this year:

  1. Because Jesus commanded it.
  2. Because it needs to be your decision.
  3. Because the world needs to hear your story.

Every occurrence of baptism in the Bible occurred after salvation.

TEXT: Matthew 28:18-20; Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 10:32-33;

  1. Do you remember your baptism?  How did you feel on the day of your baptism?
  2. Discuss the history of baptism.  How did an act that was originally used in the conversion from Gentile to Jew become such an important act for Christians?
  3. Read Matthew 3:13-17.  Why was Jesus baptized?  What significance does that have for his followers?
  4. Troy said that baptism needs to be your decision or it’s not a valid baptism.  Do you agree?   Why or why not?
  5. Does the mode of baptism (sprinkling, immersion) matter?
  6. Read Matthew 10:32-33.  When, if ever, should baptisms be private?  Why does GC film the baptisms?
  7. If you know Jesus as your Savior and you haven’t been baptized, do you know what’s keeping you from it?
