The Blind Man 09 Jul 17

(Message 2) When it comes to God, it’s easy to focus on the unexplainable and lose sight of the undeniable. Don’t let this become the story of your faith, instead, be like the blind man Jesus healed and discover a better story established on an undeniable God.

In almost every area of our life, we are wise enough to opt for the undeniable over the unexplainable.

When it comes to God, it’s easy to focus on the unexplainable and lose sight of the undeniable.

  • Christian

Make the choice to pursue God in faith even though you don’t understand His ways.

  • Skeptic

“God if you are real, make it clear to me. Because I want to know you more than I want to know answers to all my questions.”

  • I’ve seen enough

“I choose to trust you with the faith that I have.”

  1. Do you remember the first time you flew on an airplane?  What feelings were you having?  What ultimately made you get on the plane?
  2. We talked about hitting a fastball and flying on an airplane as things that “we can’t deny” work, but “we can’t explain how they work”.  What are other common things in life that fit into that category?
  3. When it comes to God and His word, many people choose to reject what they can’t explain.  What are some common questions that people have about God that lead to doubt and skepticism about Him?
  4. The experiences and interactions that people have with God are undeniable.  In what ways have you experienced God in the last year?
  5. Read John 9:1-5.  What was the “theology” of the common Jew in the 1st century when it came to suffering and illness?  How did Jesus correct their thinking?
  6. Read John 9:6-23.  Why did the Pharisees have such a hard time believing that Jesus actually healed this man?  Have you ever chosen the unexplainable over the undeniable when it came to the hand of God? If you had an opportunity to share the reasons for your choice, how did those with whom you shared react?
  7. Read John 9:24-34.  What made the blind man’s testimony so powerful and irrefutable?
  8. Read John 9:35-38.  How did Jesus give this man a better story?  How has Jesus given you a better story?
  9. What is keeping you from having an even better story? What can you do to change that?
