Start reading.  Romans 7:21-25

“So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me.   For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.”

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Who in your family has the most control over the TV remote? What happens when someone else tries to take control?
  • Have you ever lived with or worked with a control freak? What did that look like?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Read John 10:9-10 and 1 Peter 5:8. Troy said Satan goes after non-Christians and Christians with the same goal in mind. What is the goal?
  • Read Romans 7:15-25. . . slowly.  Who wrote these verses?  Share what you know about his life and spiritual walk.  What has he just told you about himself?  What does this mean for all Christians?

Start sharingChoose a question to create openness.

  • Why is so important to be aware of our sin nature? Why is it important to understand the tactics of Satan?  How are the two connected?
  • Read James 1:14-15. Discuss why we can’t just say “the devil made me do it”? People who have not begun their relationship with Jesus are at a major disadvantage.  Read and discuss 2 Corinthians 4:4.
  • Read Matthew 4:1-10. What are the 3 ways in which Satan tempted Jesus?  What are some other ways in which Satan tempts us?  Which of these is your biggest struggle?  What was Jesus’ strategy to combat Satan in the confrontation?  What strategies have you used?

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Read and discuss 1 Corinthians 10:13; 1 Peter 5:7-9; 1 John 4:4. Read Psalm 119:11. Find and discuss more Scriptures you can use as a defense against the enemy.
  • At Generations we are always talking about taking our Next Step with God. Have you taken your first step to begin a relationship with Jesus? If you want to know how, talk with leader/facilitator.

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Have someone in your group pray through the requests in your prayer journal.
  • Pray and ask God to give you discernment concerning any schemes, temptations, or deceptions that you are currently encountering. Ask God to help you take the appropriate steps to resist the enemy.

Start digging. For further study.
